A place with important historical significance near to Pitlochry is the Pass of Killiecrankie. In 1689 there was a famous battle here when the Jacobites beat the government forces. Pitlochry Dam is a hydroelectric dam which was built over 50 years ago and led to the creation of Loch Faskally. The most famous feature of the loch is the salmon ladder which was created to help the salmon to journey upstream along the river and past the dam. The 310-metre ladder which is used by about 5,000 salmon each year is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Scotland.

The suspension bridge which goes across the River Tummel is another of the important landmarks of Pitlochry which you may want to take a look at.

You will find two whisky distilleries here, both of which have good visitor centres. One of them, Edradour, is the smallest distillery in Scotland. The other, Blair Athol, dates back to the end of the 18th century and is owned by Bell's.
